"Ideas Unknown" was the last song I wrote on the album. I had written and finished producing the backing tracks for the other two songs at this point, with full satisfaction, and had one more song left to write. To be frank, I was very stuck on what to write about. That's when I realized I should just write a song about that very issue. "Ideas Unknown" is about being under the pressure to innovate and create the next big thing. Where do those golden ideas come from? Which ideas end up making it big? In the pressure for innovation that this world has become, how does one continue to thrive? We see success everyday and naturally want to imitate that, but finding innovative ideas sometimes can be more of a journey than the result of those ideas. Which one of my ideas will make it big? Those are the ideas unknown, hence the name of the song.
Verse 1:
Waiting
For the best inspiration
Cause humans
That’s what the great ones do
Waiting
For ideas for an invention
Cause humans
That’s what the great ones do
Explanation:
This pretty much encompasses how I felt waiting for my final song idea! I wanted to feel as accomplished as it seemed my musical idols were, and I truly felt a great idea for a song could help do that. To me, a great song is an invention, just as something material may be called an "invention".
Chorus:
Is who I am everything I’m thinking
Is everything I’m worth my thoughts in the making
Caught up in the pressure of innovation
How are ideas born
And which ones of mine will the whole world know
Ideas, unknown
Explanation:
In the first two lines, I am pretty much asking if my worth equals the worth of my thoughts and ideas. We see trillion dollar companies, copyrighted, patented, and trademarked concepts, and the next big invented consumer product for a reason- great ideas are worth a lot! Sometimes it makes you wonder if the difference between the two people (for example a Founder/CEO and an employee) is just that one great idea. Next, I talk about being caught up in the pressure of innovation. I find this idea so potent and real! We are always looking for technological, political, and artistic innovation nowadays, and sometimes that is a ton of pressure. The next few lines are pretty self-explanatory, but the birth of ideas is something I love to think about. Its why autobiographies intrigue me, and why I love to hear J.K. Rowling say "the idea simply popped into my head" when she explains how she came up with the Harry Potter novels. In general, I am exploring the power and origin of ideas.
Verse 2:
Waiting
To spend my dedication
Cause humans
That’s what the great ones do
Waiting
To get off at success station
Cause humans
That’s what the ones we remember do
Explanation:
We all want to see our hard work and dedication pay off. Here I kind of make "success station" the "I made it" moment people always talk about. I also explore the idea of legacy and memory in "that's what the ones we remember do". There is such a connection between ideas, fame, success, legacy, and memory. I tried to explore those connections.
After that I just repeat the chorus!
The album is officially out on some streaming platforms, so please do give this song and all the other songs on the albums a listen! Look under the "Music" tab to access the songs.
